Our History
In 1818, settlers of Pennsylvania Dutch, Dutch, and German descent established a community at “Four Corners,” a tract of land in the Virginia Military District granted to Wilkins Ogden in 1802. The name “Four Corners” referred to the area’s location at the intersection of a stagecoach route running east-west and an Indian foot trail running north-south, which is now the intersection of Main and Front Streets.
